Door Preparation (title)

Using the Door Preparation Instructions, determine the backset by measuring from the edge of the door to the center of the deadbolt, either 2-3/8” (60mm) or 2-3/4” (70mm).

Select the template that allows you to place it on the INTERIOR side of door. Fold the appropriate template along the door edge aligning the centerline of the template over the center of the existing holes on the interior side of the door. Once aligned, secure the template to the door with tape. With a nail tip, mark the interior screw hole locations. Make two nail indentations at mark “B” and one up top at mark “C”.  Remove the template from the interior side of the door.  At the locations of your nail marks, drill 1/16“ (1.6mm) diameter pilot screw holes, 1/2” (12.7mm) deep.  A simple way to make sure you don’t drill too deep a hole is to measure 1/2” from the tip of the drill bit and wrap some tape around the drill bit at that point.

At this point, measure your deadbolt hole. Installation requires a 2-1/8” (54mm) diameter.  If the deadbolt hole is not 2-1/8” please refer to your “Door Preparation Instructions”.

 

Installations Instructions (title)

Installing the Latch and Strike (title)

 

The following section is detailed on the Installation Instructions.
It is now time to install the Latch and Strike.  To adjust the latch backset, simply rotate the latch faceplate making sure the latch is facing the correct direction with “up” facing up. Secure the latch with two small (size ½”?) wood screws.  Next, install the strike with two 1-1/2” (38mm) wood screws.

 

Placing the Exterior Cylinder Assembly (title)

Place the exterior cylinder assembly on the door making sure to thread the cable under the latch.  Make sure “Kwikset” is positioned on the top portion of cylinder face.

 

Installing Mounting Plate (title)

Thread the cable through the slot on the mounting plate making sure the plate is facing in the correct direction, also making sure the cable threads through untwisted.  With the cable threaded through the slot, position the plate over the deadbolt hole.  Match the small holes at the top of plate with the small pilot holes previously drilled.  Secure the plate by inserting the large mounting bolts (instructions has screws) through the plate into the exterior cylinder assembly, taking care to keep the assembly vertically aligned as you tighten the screws.

 

Preparing product (title)

Using the key, extend the deadbolt latch in the locked position.  With the interior unit in hand, rotate the turnpiece so that the round section is at the top or in the locked position. 

 

Attaching cable to connector of interior unit (title)

Make sure the locking tab on the cable connector is extended approximately 1/16” out from the connector body.  Insert the end of the cable between the locking tab and connector body, making sure no twists are in the cable.  Depress both sides of the locking tab to lock the cable into the connector.

 

Mounting unit onto door (title)

Align the turnpiece opening with the torque blade of the cylinder assembly and press the unit flush against the door.  Make sure the cable is safely tucked clear from pinching or creasing.  Keeping the unit vertically aligned, insert the top screw, then the lower two screws into the pre-drilled pilot holes and secure the unit to the door.

 

Install 4 new AA Alkaline batteries (do not use rechargeable batteries) (title)

Install 4 new AA Alkaline batteries not included.  Do not use rechargeable batteries and replace all four batteries at the same.  Battery positions are shown on battery case.  Align top of cover over unit and press cover down until it snaps into place.  
It is recommended when replacing the batteries that it is accomplished within 2 minutes or day and time may need to be reset.

 

Display pad (title)

Let’s go through the display pad.  Pressing any button will open the main menu display.  If the keypad or sensor is left untouched for 30 seconds the unit will go into a sleep mode to conserve battery power.  The display will show “Admin”, “About”, “Battery Gauge Icon” and “Time of Day”.  Let’s go through the seven buttons:  “Up” arrow, “Right” arrow, “Down” arrow, “Left” arrow, ”Back”, “Enroll” and the “Check” button.
